Murmurs
2025

This series explores two interweaving ecological narratives, existing within the soil and skies of one city.

In 2024 the controversial herbicide Glyphosate was reintroduced in Brighton & Hove, in a ‘controlled droplet’ form, as a method of weed-management. Meanwhile, starling murmurations during winter draw crowds of observers, whilst being a red-listed UK species.

The work asks what it means to observe and experience nature, and the potential for loss through attempts to control it.

The images of starlings have been created through the lumen printing process, unfixed and then scanned.
Developed as part of the Phoenix Art Space Winter Residency, 2025
